Migrate

Move from Fly.io in four steps

Fly.io keeps serving until you change DNS.

  1. Export settings

Save the environment variables and secrets from Fly.io, and note the start command, scheduled jobs and domains.

  2. Deploy the code

Upload, push from GitHub, or ask your AI tool through Agent Lab MCP. You get a preview URL.

  3. Move the data

Create PostgreSQL and connect it to the app, then pg_dump from the old database and pg_restore into the new one.

  4. Switch the domain

Test the preview, lower the DNS TTL, then point the domain at Agent Lab. Roll back in one step if something is off.

Commands

Export from Fly.io

# Fly secrets list names only; take the values from where you keep them
fly secrets list -a your-app

# A Fly Postgres app: forward the database to your machine, then export
fly proxy 15432:5432 -a your-db-app
pg_dump "postgres://USER:PASSWORD@localhost:15432/DB" --no-owner --format=custom -f backup.dump

# Import into Agent Lab PostgreSQL (connection string in the console;
# add your IP to the database's allowlist first)
pg_restore --no-owner --no-acl -d "$AGENTLAB_DATABASE_URL" backup.dump
  • fly.toml Not read. Instead of internal_port, have the app listen on $PORT (8080 by default).
  • Dockerfile Keep it; the image must run on linux/amd64, as non-root, with a read-only filesystem apart from /tmp.
  • Volumes No persistent volumes. Keep data in PostgreSQL and files in object storage.
  • Multiple regions Agent Lab runs in one region, Taiwan; services that need many regions should stay on Fly.

What is the difference between Agent Lab and Fly.io?
Fly.io gives you machines in many regions and full control, but new organizations get no free tier; Agent Lab is in Taiwan, has a free plan and one-click rollback.
Fly won't show secret values. How do I move them?
fly secrets list shows names only. Take the values from where you keep them (a password manager, a .env file, each provider's dashboard) and add them to the project's Secrets on Agent Lab, or rotate them while you're at it.
Will my app go down while I move from Fly.io?
No. The app runs on a preview URL first while Fly.io keeps serving; you change DNS only after testing, and can roll back in one step. Migration guide →
